CBS Releases Its Week 3 College Football Top 10

first_img ClemsonAlabamaLSUOklahomaGeorgiaOhio StateFloridaMichiganNotre DameTexasYou can check out Dodd’s full top 25 and analysis right here.Looking at that top 10, a couple of things stand out. First off, Dodd is a big believer in LSU after the win over Texas. So much so that he has the Tigers ahead of even Georgia, who is ahead of them in both the AP and Coaches’ polls.Secondly, Michigan’s near-catastrophic loss to Army isn’t deterring Dodd from keeping the Wolverines among the elite. Third, he’s still bullish on Texas even after they lost to LSU at home, as the Longhorns only fell two spots. This weekend, we’ll see Iowa and Iowa State face off in their annual rivalry game, while UCF plays Stanford. Those are two of the matchups that could have some impact on Dodd’s rankings for next week. Trade missions for women Indigenous and LGBTQ interests in 2018 minister

first_imgHALIFAX – The Canadian government will lead trade missions for women, Indigenous and LGBTQ businesses and entrepreneurs later this year, International Trade Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said Saturday. The announcement was part of a speech promoting the Liberal government’s progressive trade agenda at the party’s national convention in Halifax.“In 2018, Canada will lead a women business ministerial trade mission. We will also lead the first ever LGBTQ trade mission, and the first ever trade mission devoted to Indigenous business owners and entrepreneurs,” Champagne said.He offered no details about the missions, but said the idea is to promote the interests of those who have been ignored in the past.“We want everyone in Canada to succeed,” he said. “We are going to lead the way in the world, making sure that every community reaps the benefit of trade.”Champagne said too many groups — particularly workers, women, Indigenous people and youth — have not fully shared in the benefits of trade, and the country has to do better. The first all-female trade mission was led by former Conservative Status of Women Minister Kellie Leitch in 2015.Champagne told the audience of party faithful that although there are forces that oppose global trade, Canada is clear in signalling its path.“Canada will fight for free trade, fight for the rules we need to govern it, and most importantly for the right and capacity of more Canadians from all walks of life to compete and win on the world stage,” he said. The minister cautioned that cross-border trade is facing its greatest resistance since the depression era of the 1930s.Champagne said that’s particularly true in places where traditional manufacturing has been disrupted by automation, mechanization and competition from abroad. He said that has led to anxiety “in far too many corners of our country,” and a rise in populist and protectionist forces in many parts of the world.Champagne said Canada intends to buck the trend.“Now is the time for a new approach to trade, and for more Canadians to have the tools to capitalize on it,” he said.last_img read more

Trudeau talks sex appeal politics on Live with Kelly and Ryan in

first_imgPrime Minister Justin Trudeau gamely bantered about his sex appeal, his thoughts on Canada’s relationship with the U.S., and how he’d like to see a woman lead the country as he appeared on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” on Monday.Trudeau was the first sitting Canadian prime minister to appear on the long-running American daytime TV show, which was visiting Niagara Falls, Ont., for two episodes. The conversation went from light and personal to political, with Trudeau telling co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest the relationship between Canada and the United States “is unbelievably deep.”Ripa noted Trudeau was close with former U.S. president Barack Obama and asked how he would characterize his relationship with current President Donald Trump.“We have a good, constructive working relationship and that’s the important part of it,” said Trudeau. “There’s a lot of things we agree on.“Today is World Environment Day, we don’t agree on that, because I think there’s a lot of good jobs in the environment that we’re building for. But we both agree that the most important responsibility of a leader is to create good jobs for middle-class people across our countries and we’re connected on that.”Trudeau was in the hot seat as soon as he sat down and Ripa asked: “How does your wife feel about you being named the sexiest politician alive?”“My wife’s the one who doesn’t believe it. She’s like, ‘Really?’ She knows what I look like when I get up in the morning,” said Trudeau.“Is it so different than this?” replied Ripa.“A little messier,” quipped Trudeau.Sitting outdoors at the Oakes Garden Theatre, with the American and Horseshoe Falls as the backdrop and scores of audience members sitting on the grass in front of the stage, the three also chatted about Trudeau’s childhood and his experiences having his father being Canada’s prime minister.“Do you secretly want one of (your kids) to become the next prime minister?” asked Seacrest.“Definitely not,” said Trudeau. He later added: “Although I will say, I have one daughter and there is something very special about imagining a woman prime minister. I think it’s long overdue. I just don’t think we have to wait that long. I think it should be sooner than that.”They also briefly touched on the latest terror attack in London and security at home.“I’ve been going from tourist destination to tourist destination right here and I’ve never felt safer, so you’re doing an outstanding job,” Ripa told Trudeau.During a commercial break, Seacrest pulled out his phone for a selfie with Trudeau and Ripa. When he couldn’t frame the group in the shot, Trudeau snatched the camera away and took the photo.Monday’s “Live with Kelly and Ryan” also included an appearance from “Orphan Black” star Tatiana Maslany and American singer Erin Bowman. The episode kicked off with the hosts remarking on the unpredictable weather in the region and how they spent the weekend exploring the falls, with Seacrest on the water and Ripa at the casino. The second episode set in Niagara Falls, which will air Tuesday, features “America’s Got Talent” judge Howie Mandel, “Cars 3” star Nathan Fillion, and musical performers French Montana and Swae Lee. It was also shot on Monday. This is the show’s third time airing from the falls after broadcasts in 1996 and 2006.“Live with Kelly and Ryan” airs on CTV in Canada and in national syndication in the U.S.With files from The Canadian Press’ David FriendRelated stories:Ottawa vigilant ahead of Canada 150 birthday celebrations after London attackMayors press Trudeau Liberals for help to handle legalized marijuana‘Live with Kelly and Ryan’ readies for Trudeau guest appearance in Niagara Fallslast_img read more

first_imgWASHINGTON — The U.S. Treasury Department has sanctioned 15 Russians over hacking, interference in U.S. elections and a nerve agent attack in England. In a separate action Wednesday, the agency also announced plans to lift sanctions on the aluminum manufacturing giant Rusal. It comes after the department approved a plan that severed Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska’s control of the company. The sanctions announced Wednesday include actions against nine Russian intelligence officers accused of hacking into Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Democratic Party and releasing tens of thousands of private communications. The Treasury Department says Russia’s “continued disregard for international norms” necessitated the sanctions.Sanctions were also levied against Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov. Modi administration firm on bridge across Palk Strait linking Sri Lanka

After the execution of the project, this arid and backward district, which earned the dubious distinction of ‘Thanni illa kaadu’ (waterless jungle) and choicest destination for punishment postings would turn into one of the wealthiest districts in the country, he said. Once the project was executed, Danushkodi, which became a ghost town after the 1964 cyclonic storm, would flourish and the extension of a four-lane highway from Paramakudi to Rameswaram would be automatically implemented, he said. Indian Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has said the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was firm in its proposal to build a bridge across Palk Strait, connecting Dhanushkodi, the eastern tip of Rameswaram island and Talaimannar in Sri Lanka, The Hindu newspaper reported. He said the project was at the preliminary stage but the Indian Government was firm in going ahead with the project and realise the dream of Mahakavi Bharathi. The Sri Lankan government is expected to give its nod for the project, Mr. Radhakrishnan said, replying to a question. Rejecting a suggestion that the Centre was delaying the construction of a memorial for the former President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at the burial site at Pei Karumbu, near here, he said the Centre had just received clearance from the State government and the memorial would emerge as one of the best in the country.Replying to a question, Radhakrishnan said the NDA after coming to power at the Centre in May 2014, had secured the release of fishermen, whenever they were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy on charges of poaching. The External Affairs Ministry was taking steps to work out a lasting solution to the vexatious issue, he said. The question of retrieving Katchatheevu would be decided if the islet came in the way of working out a lasting solution to the fishermen issue, he said, answering a question. Alex Jones and Infowars banned from Facebook

first_imgAlex Jones and Infowars banned from Facebook Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam was also banned. By AFP https://jrnl.ie/4617772 Thursday 2 May 2019, 10:54 PM The majority of the newly banned figures — Yiannopoulos, Loomer, Watson, Jones, and Nehlen — owed their influence to the massive reach they were allowed to cultivate through Facebook and Instagram.Lopez welcomed the latest account bans, saying they promised to help limit the spread of radical and often violent far-right ideology.Facebook last month banned various far-right British groups including the English Defence League from its network for promoting hate and violence.Other groups kicked off both Facebook or Instagram included Knights Templar International, Britain First, the British National Party (BNP) and the National Front. The tech titan banned the groups for contravening its policy forbidding “terrorist activity, organized hate, mass or serial murder, human trafficking or organized violence or criminal activity.”Former BNP leader Nick Griffin and Britain First leaders Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen were also been banned in the crackdown.Voicing hateFacebook and other social media platforms have been under fire for not doing enough to curb messages of hate and violence, while at the same time criticised for failing to offer equal time for all viewpoints no matter how unpleasant.US President Donald Trump has accused social media platforms of discriminating against users with right-wing views.“Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices,” Trump said in a tweet after Jones was curbed at Facebook and Spotify last year.Facebook in March announced bans at the social network and Instagram on praise or support for white nationalism and white separatism.Facebook policies already banned posts endorsing white supremacy as part of its prohibition on hate speech based on characteristics such as race, ethnicity or religion. The ban had not applied to some postings because it was reasoned they were expressions of broader concepts of nationalism or political independence, according to the social network.Amid pressure from governments around the world, Facebook has ramped up machine learning and artificial intelligence tools in an effort to find and remove hateful content while remaining open to free expression.© – AFP 2019 Share57 Tweet Email 32,822 Views Conspiracy theorist and Infowars founder Alex Jones.

New Animal Looks Really Familiar

first_img Let’s be honest. Lots of things look like dicks. Buildings. Bullets. Thermoses. And, of course, worms. But scientists have found a new, particularly dick-like worm called the peanut worm. Yeah, again, I know a lot of things look vaguely dickish, but for real. Look at this thing. That’s a penis. You know it. I know it. Hell, even more “professional” publications like International Business Times have an image caption that might as well be read with a wink: “The peanut worm does not look like a peanut, but a lot like something else.”This is a dick-worm. That’s just the facts. This particular penis-y animal was discovered in the eerie depths off the coast of Australia, where a team of researchers had been surveying the area. Mission complete, the team is home and now showing off all the weird things they’ve found in their month at sea. Turns out a few things these folks have discovered look quite a bit like penises. It’s not really surprising though.via sciencesourceimages.com “Penis worms are a group of marine invertebrates named for their penislike shape.”While it’s funny, of course, to think about how many not-quite-but-totally-dicks there are in the world, there’s a decent reason for it.As the lovely Hank Green explains here, all animal life is basically just a tube. Sometimes those tubes have lots of extra bits attached; sometimes they don’t. And some elementary life (like jellyfish) are only half-tubes. In broad strokes though, the analogy is pretty spot-on. When you take into account that many primitive life forms like this here peanut worm, don’t have proper circulatory systems or other organs, it makes sense for them to stretch themselves out along their tube, making a long, narrow shaft. It means they don’t have to move nutrients around quite so much and just focus on looking like deep-sea dicks.Ostensibly, the peanut worm’s name comes the fact that it can retract itself a bit for protection, which makes it look like a peanut. But only when scared. Or cold. Penis. I’m so sorry.Let us know how we’re doing Stay on target Watch: Dolphin Leaps Feet Away From Unsuspecting SurferNASA Says 2 Asteroids Will Safely Fly By Earth This Weekend last_img read more

Thierry Henry is about to suffer a major setback vs PSG

first_imgWith the terrible season that he’s having right now, AS Monaco manager Thierry Henry will confront his biggest test yet against Neymar and Mbappé’s PSG.If you thought that Thierry Henry is having an unfortunate first experience as a professional manager, you are in for a big surprise because the AS Monaco boss is getting an even worse weekend in Ligue 1.In five matches that the Frenchman has managed after taking Leonardo Jardim’s place in the club, Thierry Henry has lost three and tied two of them with a total of four goals scored and 10 against. This start of the season was supposed to be prodigious for the Arsenal legend, but instead, he has found a club that is on the brink of relegation as they keep sinking on Ligue 1’s 19th position and don’t seem to be getting any better.Just this Friday evening, Henry himself lamented Kylian Mbappé’s departure as he is about to face the French youngster on Sunday when Paris Saint-Germain visits AS Monaco in Ligue 1.This match promises to be a real massacre for the rookie manager, it might even spark the beginning of the end for him and his technical staff as one of the most forgettable managerial debuts for any former player in football history.🎙 #ASMPSG pre-match press conference💬 @ThierryHenry”There’s always pressure, whether you’re at the top or the bottom. We know very well who’s coming on Sunday. We’re going to try to make it uncomfortable for them.” pic.twitter.com/aDduXZt4nh— AS Monaco EN (@AS_Monaco_EN) November 9, 2018There is really no way around next Sunday’s match, only a true miracle could give AS Monaco a victory against one of the most impressive clubs in European football today.PSG has a staggering 41 goals in only 12 matches, they have only allowed 7 goals and they have two of the best players in the world at their service.Youngster Kylian Mbappé left Henry’s club two seasons ago, he left a record-breaking €180 million for the club and has only grown exponentially as a player at PSG.In such little time, the teenager has managed to become an integral part for both his club and his country, but his biggest achievement has been France’s second World Cup trophy in history last summer.Mbappé was the biggest revelation of this tournament, he even scored a brace against Argentina in the round of 16 and also got his own goal in the final.Opinion: Neymar will earn respect back from the PSG fans Tomás Pavel Ibarra Meda – September 14, 2019 After completing his incredible return to Parc des Princes, we predict that Neymar will earn the respect back from PSG supporters. The situation between Neymar…This Sunday, the youngster comes back to the stadium where everything began and where he started to build the already impressive career that has taken him to inevitable comparisons with players like Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo.📷🔙🏋️‍♂️PSG get back to business at the Ooredoo Centre 💪 #ASMPSG🔴🔵 #AllezParis pic.twitter.com/DQNEAQrZP5— Paris Saint-Germain (@PSG_English) November 8, 2018Thierry Henry will most certainly dread every single moment in which the young player touches the ball next Sunday, he knows that his future at Monaco is hanging by a thread and he is obviously expecting that the French champions come with everything they got to win.We are still wondering why Thierry Henry believed that taking this job as the Monaco manager was a good idea, a club that is clearly decreasing its competitive gene in the last couple of seasons and has only worried about selling their most impressive players to the highest bidders on the European market.Thierry Henry should’ve given it a little more time to think things over, or maybe even demanded some great signings for the winter in order to at least save the season.AS Monaco is in a very tight spot right now, a painful defeat against Paris Saint-Germain is almost a certain thing at this point and the club’s board of directors would make a terrible mistake if they sacked Henry from his position so early during his spell. It’s sad to see this situation from a distance, because the Frenchman is a fan favorite and everybody was expecting him to succeed on his first experience as a manager.💬 “We must try to find the right path. We know what we need to focus on and we have to try to remain positive.” @ThierryHenry #ASMCLU pic.twitter.com/8cpqBMgzAy— AS Monaco EN (@AS_Monaco_EN) November 6, 2018What do you think about Thierry Henry’s unfortunate situation at AS Monaco? Raising fees or taxes part of 180plus bills proposed in Washington Legislature

first_imgClick to enlarge The difference between a tax and a fee isn’t always clear in Olympia, but here’s how the Washington Policy Center, a Seattle-based conservative think tank, describes each:Tax: Applied uniformly in a taxing district, a tax raises revenue for general use or public benefit.Fee: Applied to someone receiving a specific service, a fee offsets the cost associated with running or regulating that service.188: Bills the Office of Financial Management notified the public about.82: Legislators who introduced bills to raise taxes or fees.$6.2 billion: 10-year revenue projections, had those bills passed.35: OFM-flagged bills that passed in the Legislature. At least $3 billion: 10-year revenue projections for those 35 bills.$33.6 billion: Size of the 2013-2015 budget.Despite many legislators’ public aversion to raising taxes and fees this year, Washington lawmakers proposed more than 180 bills to do just that, according to information kept by the state’s Office of Financial Management.About 7 percent of the 2,492 measures introduced in 2013 would have raised taxes or fees. Those proposals came from Democrats and Republicans alike, and from several legislators representing Clark County. Most of the bills in question impose fees on members of a particular industry, or other groups, such as vehicle owners or outdoors enthusiasts. Had all of the proposals passed, they would have raised at least $3 billion in new revenue in the next decade. This year, one of the largest tax or fee bills to pass was determined by OFM to raise at least $1 billion in the next 10 years. The measure, which was included in the operating budget, adds a tax on hospitals to pay for Medicaid hospital services. Medicaid is a health-care program for the poor.last_img read more

The case was being heard by a three-judge bench of the top court comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and KM Joseph. The Centre claimed privilege over documents pertaining to Rafale fighter jet deal and told the apex court that no one can produce them in the court without the permission of the department concerned. Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing for the Centre, referred to Section 123 of the Evidence Act and provisions of the Right to Information Act (RTI Act) to buttress his claim.Justice Joseph told Venugopal that the RTI Act has an overriding effect on the Official Secrets Act. He pointed out that “public interest outweighs” in cases of corruption and human rights violation. The Centre is bound to furnish documents in such cases, the apex court judge said. ReutersHowever, the petitioners argued that not everything can be brushed aside in the name of national security. Petitioner Prashant Bhushan has presented photocopies of the ‘secret’ documents related to Rafale fighter jet deal in the top court to back petition seeking review of last year’s judgment on Rafale deal.(Inputs from agencies)last_img read more

Videocon to exit spectrumoriented businesses by shutting down services in Punjab from

first_imgVideocon Telecom, which operates under Quadrant Televentures in the Punjab telecom circle, will exit the mobile services business by shutting down its operations in the state effective February 15.Brace up! India’s telecom pricing war will further intensify, says JP Morgan”Quadrant Televentures would be discontinuing mobile services with effect from midnight of February 15, 2017, in Punjab service area (the entire state of Punjab including Chandigarh UT and Panchkula),” the unit of the diversified Videocon Group said in a notice on its website.Punjab was the only telecom circle where Videocon was still in operation after the telco in March 2016 sold its spectrum to India’s largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel for about Rs 4,428 crore. In 2008, Videocon had acquired spectrum licenses to operate in 17 circles across India. However, the operator lost all the permits in 2012 in the 2G spectrum allotment scam. Later, it bid and re-acquired airwaves for six circles. Videocon Telecom ended its services in Bihar and Jharkhand, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh (East) and Uttar Pradesh (West) in May last year. Before closing operations in the Punjab circle, Quadrant Televentures asked its prepaid customers to exhaust their balance and subscribers being billed monthly to clear their dues before moving to other carriers. Back in September 2016, Videocon Telecom CEO Arvind Bali had said that one of the key reasons the company is exiting the mobile telecom space was because it predominantly was a 2G player in a market that was fast catching up newer technologies like 4G. The company said it plans to make a comeback in the telecom space through the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) route and will offer mobile services across the country including 3G and 4G in next six to eight months.”We are in final stage of applying for the Virtual Network Operator license and expect to file an application in a week. MVNO roll-out usually is very quick, generally, it should take about 6-8 months depending on the number of circles,” Bali had then said. According to the Economic Times, Bali confirmed that it was exiting the spectrum-oriented businesses. “We’re going in non-spectrum businesses because spectrum is expensive. We have started 14 new businesses including surveillance and security, enterprise and broadband, which needs less investment and provides quicker returns,” he said.last_img read more

Setback for Stayzilla NCLAT snubs appeal against insolvency process

first_imgStayzillaTwitterNational Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has dismissed an appeal by home-stay startup— Stayzilla, against the insolvency process order by National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).A three-member bench of SJ Mukhopadhaya, AIS Cheema and Balvinder Singh said that it did not find any merit in the company’s appeal and ordered dismissal, Business Standard reported.Earlier, one of Stayzilla’s founders, Yogendra Vasupal, had argued that there was a dispute and therefore the application under section 9 of the ‘I&B Code’ was not maintainable. But the NCLAT bench found that the document preferred by Jigsaw Solutions, who initiation the insolvency proceedings against Stayzilla, was complete.”As we find that there is no specific objection made by Stayzilla in writing, raising any dispute with regard to the quality of services as claimed to have been rendered by Jigsaw, no dispute can be raised at the stage of submitting reply under subsection (2) of Section 8 of the I&B Code,” the business daily quoted the court order.Earlier on September 15, NCLT’s Chennai bench had admitted the insolvency process against the Bengaluru-based startup on a petition filed by city-based advertising firm Jigsaw Solutions.Jigsaw Solutions argued that as the firm failed to repay its dues for the job undertaken, Jigsaw Solutions demanded Stayzilla to liquidate. Stayzilla had appointed Jigsaw Solutions to do outdoor and bus-shelter publicity for the debt-ridden startup. The NCLT bench had then appointed Karthigeyan Srinivasan as interim resolution professional (IRP) and ordered to complete the proceedings within 180 days.Countering the argument, the counsel for Stayzilla submitted that there were deficiencies in the work done by the vendor and accused Jigsaw of creating fake invoices to raise bills. One of the co-founders of Stayzilla, Yogendra Vasupal, was earlier arrested and was in prison for almost four weeks.last_img read more
